My mom forwarded this web site that is trying to a national survey in confidationalty. I thought I post the info here as it seams very relevent to all those here.

Community Needs Assessment Survey - We need your input!

We all know there is very little reliable statistical data about trans and gender variant identified persons - here is a great opportunity to help change that! Sponsored by the NTAC (National Transgender Advocacy Coalition) and under the supervision of Claremont Graduate University, Elizabeth Green is running an online survey to collect statistical data about gender variant persons and their experiences. This study is
available to anyone residing in the United States, with a particular focus on collecting demographic and experiential information about gender variant identified persons living in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino, CA counties. We are looking to have at least 200-250 respondents from the SoCal area and over 2000-2500 responses from the greater US.

In order to participate you must be at least eighteen years old and self identify as a part of the gender variant community (including but not limited to transgender, transsexual, intersex, genderqueer, cross-dresser, etc.) The survey is comprised of 75 questions and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Surveys are 100% confidential and your participation is most appreciated.

Also, if you would be so kind as to forward this message to anyone you think might be interested, including list-serves and organizations - that would be extraordinarily helpful to our cause. We are more than willing to arrange for on-site paper surveys for individuals or groups in SoCal if that is more convenient. I took the survey and I think it's well done. I've seen lots of other sites posting this too.

Another forum I visit had some people who understandibly questioned it's validity, importance, or the questions. Most of the sites I've visited are ok with everything though.

I'm glad you posted the link, it's a very important site. I hope folks take time out to take the test.

The survey might have an influence on policy-makers in the U.S. so it's only open to American citizens.

Hi all.

I did complete the survey. I have been interested in the construction of psychological and sociological survey's since my undergrad days when I helped construct and test some in directed readings projects. I am out of practice, but I noted the rather strong orientation to the needs of people in urban, high risk, low-to-no income brackets and sex workers in this survey. So, I kinda doubt my completion of the survey will provide the investigator with much useful data. We can only hope there will be someone responsible for policy making that can use it to improve conditions in that arena. Pardon my cynicism, but under the present national administration, and California's financial woes and current Terminator-in chief, I shall not be holding my breath.

Thanks for everyone explaining it to me.

That's weird that it was just of the US, but any kind of research that can help us be understood in any capacity is good. I only say that because there isn't really anyone looking into who we are. So I think a test like this is good.

Hopefully it also lets the world know we are voters too, by showing we exist.

I've invested in an oxygen tank that ought to last until Nov. 2004.

[Sadly, just today our fine appointed leader says he'll support a consitutional amendment that will ban gay marriage -- and any other kind of legal union :evil: :evil: -- if enacted, this will have FAR REACHING consequences to many existing couples legally . . . current rights like child custody, adoption, child support, validity of wills, you name it, will be up for legal interpretation to be determined by Supreme Court that will be filled with Bush appointees if he wins next year.
