My mom did the same thing when I was a child. I didn't use all of my own closet space, and there was an extra dresser in my room for the longest time, so Mom would stash her old/unused things there. And she wondered why I would try things on. "Well, you put it in my closet..."

My stretching out was just right, according to my wife. She said that it wasn't as tight.
