pierced

Post by Ellie »

Hello,, Ellie here,,,, Have any of you heard the phrase--- Left is right & right is ??? So I tells my male cousin, I couldn't remember 'the' rule , so I just had them both done. I swear that was a very interesting 2 mths of unintential attention. My older brother asked me why, and I replied, for balance. He didn't get it. His 14 yr boy has pierced ears & paints his toenails red. His kid had his shoes off in the back yard playing catch, is how I know. His earrings are Michael Jorden ( the basketball star)huge fake diamonds. He says his kid is doing it for attention, duh. Balance, yeah that was it, but really tho, I had them pierced because I had purchased these awesome sterling silver chandaliers for a X-Mas for Ellie ,and because I got tired of tapeing them to my earlobes! Pierce date , 3-12 04. My favs are the lighting bolts & the dangling dolphins. Anyway......Peace in joy , Ellie

I had my ears pierced last weekend. My wife wanted me to have them pierced for over a year now--I don't know why I waited so long, I love them. Very soon, I'm going back and have them double pierced. After they heal, I'm going to get some hoops.

David, funny you would say you wanted hoops. My wife said i could only wear my studs. But this weekend she helpped me to pick out some smaller hoops to wear.

Ellie, i have used the right ear, left ear, i could not remember which one so just did both to answer the why do both ears question.

Just had my right ear pierced. I took a fair amount of ribbing when I got the left one done, I expect a bunch more with the right. Oh well, they're both done now! Can't wait for the right one to heal!

Studs vs hoops? I prefer the latter but usually alternate between both when wearing them 24/7 and at work. In my experience, either one works OK but smaller hoops are less conspicuous. I've had people say they prefer me in smaller hoops so I see that as progress that they would have an opinion and take the time to voice it.

Funnily enough, one time I wore my 1" hoops during a weekend and forgot to change them when I went back to work. As it happened, we had a group luncheon that day and it wasn't until then that I realized I still had these bigger hoops in. Surprisingly, no one commented at all. Since then, I have worn them a number of times without comment as well as some diamond studs too. I think most folks are used to my eclectic tastes to even bother anymore. Just an example that in the right situation, progress can be achieved if you just go for it.

I'm with you Gracie!

I would so much enjoy having mine done... I just love all the wonderful earrings I see.

Maybe someday soon.... sometimes I wonder if I'm the one making a bigger deal of it than my coworkers or clients would????

If my lobes are any indication it takes about a month to really heal. I got earing protectors from Claire's in the local mall and am using them to keep the holes open. If you cut off some of the flange, they are really hard to see and work quite well. I sleep in the studs, but during the day, it's the protectors.

They work like this (just don't use the ear ring or the smaller piece):

Claire's are packaged just like this:

I guess where there is a will there is a way. I highly recommend going the next set of holes done in the mall. Go to another town if you are not comfortable doing it in your home town. For me we were in the store for about 45 minutes of which pop and pop was the piercing. The rest of the time was paperwork, picking out the studs, putting on a dot for the position, getting my wifes ok on the position, talking with the gal that did them, picking out more earrings for my daughter that just had hers done 2 days prior, and paying for it. Nothing was said that an old fart was getting his ears done other than "Oh". She had only been doing ears for a few months and Claires is more of a teeny bop place.

Lisa, I have not seen those in Claires, but now i will have too look.

Note on the healing process. For me even after having left the studs in for 8 plus weeks and always having some type of ear ring in after that, at about 10 weeks i took my nice studs out that my wife gave me to do some painting for an hour, but than forgot to put something back in until morning. After about 11 hours without I had trouble getting any ear ring back in and my daughter ended up having to push them through a bit as the hole had started to close up. You may want to take a look at what Lisa talks about as a filler. I know others have used fishing line and other things to fill the hole without an earr ing in.

Good Luck with your pierced ears. I love having mine done.

Lisa - -

I just noticed that you changed your avatar - - you look great in this photo! "...It's gotta be the earrings!...."

While I know that it is possible to pierce your own ears, or at least have someone do it for you at home, personally I would prefer to go to a jewelry store like Claire's and pay the few bucks for them to do the piercing. Why?

1. They are using a piercing 'gun' which is preloaded with the starter stud earring you selected. After marking the proposed spot on your earlobe, the gun is positioned over that spot and quickly - and with minimal pain - the starter stud earring is pierced. Botta-bing, botta-boom - it's over!

2. Problems can arise using the home-piercing version of a sharp needle, cork, etc. It also takes longer to pierce the ear using this method, which means that 'you' have more time to think about the pain, whether or not the pain is as 'great' as you think it is or not. It's all psychological.

3. Should there be any complications from an ear piercing which was done by a professional (i.e., Claire's, etc.) then at least you 'may' have some legal recourse. Obviously, this scenario is almost unheard of - - in fact, it rarely happens - - but think about it, anyways.

Yes, I am planning on having my ears pierced again - and soon - and will gladly pay whatever money it costs to have it done professionally.

Thank you  I second your recommendation to have the ears done professionally! If I were to do it again, I would consider going to a tatoo place. They are licensed and the cities watch them like hawks. They have to be really careful. The aftercare is also very important. Keep the piercing area clean with peroxide or alchol, I even went as far as coating the studs with anticeptic cream for a while.

I personally wouldn't recommend the "DIY' method and the posted experiences should prove that. As SilverLady said, the stores have the proper equipment and it's quick, easy and best of all...painless. In the unlikely event that your ear fell off during the process, [-o< you likely wouldn't have any recourse as they normally get you to sign a waiver before they begin.

That's interesting SL. I've actually never heard a stud gun make those sounds before. Who knew!! Only ever heard a 'click' or 'clack' but I will listen out next time I'm in an ear piercing place. rotf

What do you mean you can't talk with your hands? What are those things you use to type with? (OOOO)

Hey, bonjourneaux. Didn't realize you had Italian in ya! No wonder everything is bada boom bada bing.....including stud guns.

BTW, welcome to the wonderful club of sapphire goddesses. One of my favourite gems so I'm happy to hang out here for a bit. They say diamonds are a girl's best friend so I've no doubt you'll be yapping your way there before too long.
