I Quit (smoking that is)

Post by Paige »

Ok Girls. I have gone long enough that I think I can talk about it. I have quit smoking. Others (Lorna for one) have done it so I think I can too. Today is 6 days and I'm taking it one day at a time.

Besides all the health reasons I just decided it was time again to quit.

A thought for all of you that are considering this. I have been cutting down for about a year, and a month ago a friend asked me "What was stopping me from quitting?" My answer was "I can't face the thought of never having another cigarette for the rest of my life."

After thinking about it for a while and being prompted by my doctor for the umteenth time and being sick in bed I decided to quit. One day at a time. For today, I will not have a cigarette. I'll make a decision about tomorrow when it comes.

I know this is a familiar refrain for another program but I thought it would work for this issue as well. Telling others is also part of my plan. Thanks for allowing me to share this with all of you.

For today, I remain, a non-smoker. Hugs, Paige

Paige. Are you using the patch or any other stop smoking product? Cold turkey is tough. Nicotine is a difficult addiction to stop. I wish you the best. I quit 30 years ago and started smoking again 3 years ago. Even worse,CIGARS! I love them! My son told me he learned in school smoking one cigar and inhaling was like having 6 cigarettes.I rationalize what I'm doing after listening to Dennis Leary. He says that smoking takes 10 to 15 years off your life. But those are the worst years. The years of wheel chairs, nursing homes, kidney dialysis and adult diapers and you might as well leave when your on top! I'd blow you a big kiss in Houston but I don't have the breath!

Love
Jeannie

PS Next time your in Connecticut Paige PM me. I'm down in Clinton alot and I believe it's close to you. If you run into Sister Mary Connors in Houston tell her her favorite printer says HI. She'll know! Have a great Holiday to all of you ladies.

Hi all,

Congrats, Paige! =D> Here's thinking of you--one day at a time.

Marie and I set January 1st as our official quitting date. It'll be encouraging to know that, on that date, many people will be joining us in the process.

Good luck in continuing to quit!

Love,
CJ

I have to say that I am using Nicorette gum this time. All other times I have quit have been "cold turkey" but the gum helps a bit.

For any of you that are considering quitting please post here and we will all give you our support and prayers.

Thanks again. Getting easier by the day!!

Hugs, Paige

Way to go Paige. It will continue to get easier every day. Just don't let yourself be tempted. [-X

I stopped smoking cigarettes in February and tried the gum but it taste so bad I went cold turkey. What motivates me of course is the health issues and also I just love the smell of my perfume over the stale smell of cigarettes. The smell now almost makes me nauceous... :)

Just remember, you will feel so much better in the long run and smell sweeter too... :)

Paige I am always happy to hear someone has stopped smoking. If you feel weak ask me to describe my parents deaths, both of which were aprtly attributable at the very least to smoking most of their lives.

Keep at it

Sharon, Congratulations on your success. That will just make Houston smell that much better when we get there on Wednesday. I know what you mean about the smell making you nauseous. It is starting to bother me already.

Marda, Thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate it.

Andrea, The same with both of my parents.

Thanks all, for your encouragement and good wishes. I send you all...

Just an update

Post by Paige »

For any and all of you that are interested...

I am coming up on 9 weeks without a cigarette. I really feel better and the urge to smoke is down to only about 2 or 3 times a day. It only takes a minute or less for the urge to subside so I'm fairly confident I will continue to be smoke free.

Thanks for your help and support. (--)

Excellent Paige!

I'm still trying to get Amber to quit. She just enjoys it too much, though. I'll mention your success to her. I doubt it will change her mind, but it doesn't hurt to try. [-o<

Kyra - If Amber isn't ready to give up smoking, then you won't be able to change her mind. As Paige and many others know - you (generic term here) have to want to change something bad enough before you'll break any bad habit. BTDT

If you try to force Amber to quit smoking, and she's not ready to try giving it up, then she's more likely to dig-in and resist your efforts, and smoke more than she is now.
