Pantyhose color and skirt color or dress color
I was wondering what color pantyhose goes with what dress color or skirt color? Like tan goes with what color? Black goes with what color? Blue goes with what color?

I'm an opaque tights fan, so only wear chocolate brown or black opaques.
I wear black with black skirts or dresses but with other colours, it depends what colour shoes or boots I'm wearing. I'm very into browns at the moment...been wearing tan or chocolate brown boots most of the winter so have been wearing brown tights. But who knows, next season it may all change!
I think tan goes pretty much with anything, even black. I personally don't like red with black...but it is personal choice...if you are happy with a certain colour combo, then wear it. There are certainly a lot of Fashion Police about to tell you what not to wear but we don't necessarily have to agree with everything they say! (Though I do admit to being a big Trinny and Susannah fan
)
Love,
Curly

I almost always wear stockings as close to my true skin color as possible.
I wear sheer black stocking for occasions when I want to be very elegant and black tights when I especially want to be warm or when I wear my almost too short red skirt (sorry Curly, black and red is my favorite combo
).
Personally, I don't think I'd wear blue stockings or any other non neutral color. I don't want the focus be drawn down to my legs but rather up to my face.

Someone once said to me I looked like Olive Oyl from Popeye when I wore a red sweater with a black skirt....now I can't wear them because it has stuck firm in my head

I would wear black tights with a red skirt too
My mind had gone off on a tangent when I posted about red and black...I was thinking clothes and Olive Oyl... not tights at that point
and would choose sheer black over tan if I'm wearing a skirt or dress for a special evening. It seems more dressy. My brown opaques are very much daytime wear.
As for coloured, I stay away from them. Though I quite like the idea of chunky wool red tights with tan boots for a Boho/hippie look
Love,
Curly.

Hi, Judy
I'm a pantyhose person, as opposed to opaque tights. Like Terri, I try to wear my hose as close to my true skin color, and I favor the Suntan or Nude colors for most outfits.
I have found that wearing darker colored pantyhose tends to make me look even shorter, no matter how high my heels, so the darkest color I would wear is Taupe or Coffee by L'Eggs, and that was normally during the winter months. These colors are in between a Suntan and Off Black, and are only available at their Outlet stores or online, in case you are interested.
I have tried to wear pantyhose in different colors (ie white, black, navy, etc.) and even some of the 'design' pantyhose (ie, fishnet, roses, herringbone, etc.), and personally I just don't care for those colors or styles - on me. Some people look great wearing colored or design hosiery, but not this GG. Once in a while I can get away with wearing a sheer Off Black, but that's with a very dressy outfit.
There is no hard-and-fast rule despite what the Fashion Police try to say, and like with most things, sometimes you just have to try different color hose with your outfits to see what looks best on you.

I have a question in this vein. Back in December I bought a pair of purple pumps on impulse, without thinking that I had an outfit to wear them with. This past weekend I found a dress in nearly the same shade (the dress is plum, and the shoes are a touch paler). Would it be better to wear dark hose or flesh-toned?

Weighing in on the color of stockings...
I personally wear stockings that are 1/2 shade darker than my own skin. As a fair-skinned red head, I need a little "tan" on my legs. If I were a little darker, I would match the skin tone.
When I am looking to be *very* dressy, I go with off black or charcoal, but it has to be just the right outfit - dark outfit with a pair of *black* (not blue, not brown, not hunter green) shoes.
I personally don't like other color stockings at all. I'm a really big fan of the natural look and *not* looking like I spent hours getting dressed up - I prefer to look as though I am naturally drop-dead gorgeous!
If I lived where it got cold, I might pair opaque tights with boots with a dress. Then I think I would probably opt for black. It's slimming, sexy and goes with everything...
As for the plum outfit that Jaye has - hmmm. I'd go with flesh toned too.
