Skirts and slips

Post by Judy W »

I was wondering if any of you ladies wear short slips under your skirts or are you just supposed to wear skirts without no slips or is there a preference for either.

Judy -

Generally, slips are to be worn under skirts (or dresses) to prevent static cling, as well as to make the skirt or dress no longer ‘transparent’ (for modesty’s sake). Some skirts are already lined, so there is no need to wear an additional slip. For other skirts, like one that is made of wool, you may wish to wear a slip to prevent the itchiness from the fabric. Some skirts, like ones made of denim, just don’t require slips as they are not transparent. Slips also have a tendency to retain body heat, which can be good news or bad, depending upon the when-and-where of the occasion.

The length of the slip is usually determined by the length (and style) of the skirt. Personally, I wear the shortest slip possible because (1) I *really* dislike slips, and (2) I hate seeing the hems of slips showing from underneath any skirt or dress.

Personally, if a particular skirt (or dress) needed a slip just to prevent static cling, I would try to wear tap-pants instead. There are some slips that are ‘body hugging’ in style that I do like and they come in a variety of lengths. I believe mine is from 'Body by Glanz' which can be found at your better women’s stores.

None of my skirts require a slip, and most of my dresses do not require a slip, either, so I just wear my panty hose and possibly tap pants to allow the fabric of the outfit to ‘slide’ across the backside. I have a few long and short dresses in a tropical 'sheath' style and while they may be slightly transparent, that is the style of those dresses, and the most I would wear underneath them, then, are tap pants.

Hi, Absaroka -

Tap pants are nylon or satin 'shorts' - - like the kind you see as part of a camisole and shorts set.

Usually I will wear camisole and tap pants in place of a slip beneath a dress or skirt as I find it's not near as binding, nor as warm, as wearing a slip, other times I'll just wear the tap pants - - it all depends on the outfit. Can you tell that I *really* dislike slips???

I don't recall ever wearing a slip or ever thinking I have a need for one. I'm pretty sure none of my friends do either. however, I know my 88 year old and 91 year Grandmothers do wear them!

Love,
Curly :)

It's amazing what they call slips nowadays. I found this in my email yesterday:

Looks cool, or hot, depending on your choice of words, but it's awfully short.

Jaye - That slip from FOH is very similar to mine from Body By Glanz - minus the garters. The bottom 2" of mine has rubberized-elastic (like that found on thigh highs) to keep it from riding upwards, it's just as figure-hugging as the one from FOH, and not as expensive, either! Thanks for the link!

Curly - The last time I can remember wearing a traditional slip was nearly 25-30 years, and then only at my mother's insistence since I was still a minor and she ruled the roost! :( Since that time I have switched to wearing the cami-tap pant combination, or the Body by Glanz-type of slip - but only if a particular dress was excessively static-y. I do not wear wool skirts unless they are already lined.

I also can't think of anyone near my age or younger who wear slips, either, and it was a friend who taught me the cami-tap pant trick. My elderly neighbors, on the other hand, wouldn't be caught dead wearing a dress or skirt without a slip. Must be a 'generation' thing!

But slips are so sexy! I remember these lines from the movie "Ninotchka" about a slip:

"So beautiful! And you don't even see it!"
"No. But you feel it."

slips

Many of the quality skirts have lining in them. When a skirt has a lining you really dont need to wear a slip if you are wearing pantyhose. If you are wearing garters and stockings I would suggest a slip so the garters dont get snagged on lining of the skirt.
If you are wearing a skirt without a lining by all means wear a slip so that the skirt doesnt stick to you.

Skirts & slips

In the hot summer, I wear a long sleeveless dress, with a slip under, only as underwear. I find this quite comfortable while driving on long trips.

Wearing a slip naturally depends upon the material of the outfit that you. I don't normally wear one.

Well I am new to this, but if you wear a gaff then a body contour suit like I need to the the slip is mute. I can just wear the gaff and skirt but I have a gut I am working on.
I have been out for over a year already WOW!

I can't stand it!!!!!!! 8-[ You, Georgia, you don't know what a gaff is???

Oh my how embarrassing for you!

You don't know what a gaff is. I won't embarrass myself by saying whether or not I need one, but I see Christine has the, the uh?! how about "intestinal fortitude" to say she wears one! darn braggart!!!!!

In old'en days they use to place GG's in "iron maidens" to protect their, well to protect them "from themselves?"

A gaff is a device that varies by different manufactures but attempts to serve the same purpose and that is (in lieu of "tucking") :-k you do know that a lot of CD'ers have to "tuck" and I hope you know what "tucking" is? It is something that again I will neither admit to or deny, but a method of "hiding" a part of the male anatomy in a manner so that it is "out of the way" so to speak when wearing tight clothing from the waist down! A "gaff" is a somewhat "heavy duty" piece of clothing that aids some genetic males that are not only blessed with being CD but perhaps an "over-abundance" of well, let's call it, the equipment that physically defines us as males. It aids in hiding that portion of our anatomy and making us, as one manufacturer says, "smooth!"

Hope this answers your question and please, PLEASE don't be embarrassed to ask us anything! We have ALL the answers! :-k
Well, maybe not all of them but we can make them up with the best of them!

Love you, hon!!!
