First Tri-Ess Meeting Tomorrow!
After months of dragging my feet (no pun intended), I sat down a couple of weeks ago and emailed the "Info Lady" of Kappa Beta, the local chapter of Tri-Ess. Last week, she replied and sent me her phone number for further info. I talked to her Tuesday afternoon, and we did the preliminary interview over the phone. Their next monthly meeting is this Saturday, and I was invited.
This might sound a little weird, but that phone conversation was the first time I ever talked to another crossdresser. Tomorrow I'll be hanging out with a number of others. I'm a little nervous, but I'm jazzed, too.
I'll let you know Sunday how things went.

Jaye, you will be amazed! you can pass this on to them for me if you want! Before I found our local group I did contact them about driving the three and a half hours to Charlotte for one of their meetings and they did return my call - get this 6:30 am - guess who answered the phone "Hello!?" my wife said, "Who!?" "Virginia!?" and groggly she handed the phone to me, "Guess it's for you!?" The caller asked "Is this a good time to call?" I said, "Well not really!" my wife was now almost fully awake and laying there next to me listening intently. "OK, I'll call back!" well they never did but that is all right. Tell them I appreciate their efforts and maybe some day I can come as your guest!!!?? I would love to meet them as I hear they are a great group!!
One point that I was concerned about going to my first meeting! Voice, honey, don't try an fake it! just talk as you normally do, everyone else will be and just relax - remember we are all nice people - with the same gift and "dress with style" You will have a great time and I know you will make some great friends!
Keep the faith,
Love ya,
Virginia

Tri-ess is a good entry point. I will always remember my first meeting because it was the day my life started to come together. The one thing I would recommend is that you join the group. I mean, don't just sit there. Mix in meet and get the know the other ladies and let them get to know some about yourself. This is a support group.
There were over a 100 ladies at my first meeting at Chi Chapter and I admit I was a bit overwhelmed and at times did feel almost alone. However, one of the gals came up to me and introduced her self to me and then took me around to meet a few of the other ladies. I have been a member ever since.
What can I say? Once you start talking to the others you are going to be amazed at just how not alone you really are. Enjoy! And wear something Green!

Hi Jaye,
Oh girl I have to anwser this one as my first meeting and outing with Tri-Ess was something my wife and I will never forget. They were so nice no matter how you looked and welcome us with open arms. Gosh my first meeting and the next night we were out and about the town and eating in a fancy place in the middle of downtown. My only regreat is since I retired and moved there are no charters close to attend. Girl be yourself and dressup to your hearts content, have a good time

I've been going over how to post this several times before this posting. The whole day was a lot to take in, on soo many levels.
When I spoke to Stephanie last week, she told me that she typically checked into the hotel where the meetings are held around noon, and that people usually showed up anytime after that. I decided that I wanted to be early, rather than late.
I didn't rush by any means (I actually lollygagged a bit), but I was dressed and made up in less time than I have in years. I was told I could dress any way I liked, so long as my clothing was "age-appropriate". I'm 34, so I figured just about anything would be okay. It was a little cool, so I opted for a pair of black Venezia jeans and a brown cowl-neck top from The Limited. As it happened, I ended up being the only one there in pants. Actually, Stephanie was wearing slacks, but she had intended to wear a new skirt, but changed her mind because (she said) it made her look "like and elephant". Every other person who showed up wore either a dress or a skirt. I've never felt so butch in my life.
I didn't get to the hotel until almost nearly 1pm, and it turned out that Stephanie was just checking in, so my timing was perfect. I had forgotten until just then that a friend of mine works at that hotel, and guess who was manning the desk at that moment? I don't think he recognized me, though. He just handed me a key and kept on going.
After that, things proceeded kind of slowly. I was introduced to Stephanie and her SO Pat, and another member named Rhonda. Other members filtered in in ones and twos over the next couple of hours, most of them having driven in from various points outside Charlotte. Virginia, there were three pre-op ladies who drove up from Augusta, Georgia, so drving down from your place wouldn't have been too much of a stretch!
All told, there were about fourteen girls in attendance, counting me. I'm told that this was a relatively small gathering, so maybe more will show next month. We ended the business portion of the meeting around 5pm, and then adjourned to Hartigan's, a local pub, for dinner. A couple of post-op ladies joined us for dinner, so I got to see a pretty good cross-section of the community all in one day.
After dinner, we went back to the hotel, and a few of the girls went clubbing afterward. I was wiped after being up all day, so I packed it in around 10pm. Maybe I'll make it longer next time, but it's hard getting switched off of my night-shift hours to do stuff during the day. Even now I'm yawning because of missed sleep.
I was a little awkward at first, but after a while I warmed up to everyone. I don't get out a lot period, so just being around so many people during daylight was different for me, never mind that they were all transgendered.
I have to mention this, just because I could brag a little. I had the longest nails of anyone present, that weren't artificial. Several of the girls had stick-on nails, and a couple had acrylics. Mine were all me, and everybody cooed over my hands. I've never thought of them being that feminine, but they passed muster with the group.
Next time, I'm definitely wearing a skirt. It should be warmer in April, and I promised I'd show some leg.

Jaye,
You will have to see what their rules are for "guests." I would love to attend one of their meetings. Gheesh, all the way from Augusta, Ga. thats gotta be a five - six hour drive, bless 'em!!!
Glad you had a good time, but then again I knew you would.
I have been working on my nails, but to no avail, I almost always resort to the glue on. Right now mine are not in too bad of shape, but I just can't seem to get any length out of them, oh well Revlon here I come - agian!
Love ya,

Congratulations on your wonderful experience and those LONG nails! Don't feel like the odd girl out just because you chose pants. While most gals will usually opt for a skirt or dress, I think just as long as you feel comfortable in what you're wearing, you'll always fit right in. I know in my own experience, I've received the occasional 'look of horror' from other gals when they see me in pants, but that's OK. Each to their own and as I said, just wear what feels right for you.
