Transamerica

Post by Grace »

I finally went to see Transamerica on Saturday night (en femme, of course). What a great movie! It really portrays the hard dilemmas faced by transgendered folks.

My (now, and just recently :-() ex-fiance called me on Saturday after going to the movie the previous night. She had struggled to understand, come to terms with, my crossdressing, and was relatively tolerant, though it was clearly very difficult for her. After seeing the movie, she felt impelled to tell me that she felt really badly if she ever said anything that hurt me with respect to my CDing,. She said she felt a huge, deep new level of empathy and sympathy for what I've (we've) gone through throughout our lives as a result of the unenlightened, largely disapproving, and sometimes brutal society we find ourselves in.

I think this movie is powerful and I believe many who see it are genuinely changed. The reaction of the folks in the theater when I attended clearly morphed from the snickers in the first scene (the clip from the "Find your Female Voice" DVD) to the deep discussions I overheard as people exited the theater.

If anyone on this forum hasn't seen the movie, I highly recommend it.

Cheers,

Grace

I have moved your post to the OffTopics section as there is already a thread in there for Transamerica.

Janet

You may not have heard of it because it doesn't open in the U.K until this Friday (Mar 24th). For a U.K review, check out the following link
