Is My Female Name Feminine Enough?

My real male name is James Johnson and i wanted to keep the JJ part so i thought of the girl's name Janet. Do you think its a pretty name.

Janet, your name is yours and as long as you are happy with it, then whatever name you choose is fine (at least with me). Personally (and not that it matters) I think the name Janet is wonderful

I'll also say that as long as it feels right for you, then you've chosen well. I would only caution about using your real last name if your cding isn't public knowledge and you want it to stay that way. If everything is cool, then hey, go for it.

Janet Johnson - just sort of rolls off the tongue! I like it!
I chose mine, Virginia Irene to honor both my mother, Virginia and my grandmother (her mother) Irene, as I have said - I think they would be proud of their "daughter/granddaughter!"

I choose my name because it could concievably be used in both the male and female mode (just beginning to transition), but now I wish I had chosen something more feminine, say....Fifi, or something like that.

Janet is just fine, not many men with that name ("Sue" is a different matter, of course.)

Tracy, hon, you look great!! As you continue with your transition I hope you will share with us what you are doing, dealing with, feeling etc. I think some of our sisters here are also considering following in your foot steps so to speak and you would be doing them a tremendous service sharing with them. Some may want to PM you and others, if you develop a relationship may want to talk on the phone with you. Some may actually want to meet you. That is not unheard of here and some of our sisters have gotten together and had great times! Donna and I are going to be in Richmond, Va. this coming week-end for TG Pride - she is a real sweetheart too!
As I have said you won't find a nicer group of ladies anywhere!

Hi, Tracy, and I agree with Virginia's comments - not only do you look great, but please do share your transitioning experience with the members here.

IMHO, the name Tracy seems to fit you to a "T" - no pun intended! I am glad that you did not choose the name Fifi - I do not think that is a more feminine name at all. If I heard someone calling out the name Fifi - my first inclination would be to look for a poodle, not a woman!!

There are girls named Billy, Jo, Bobby, Terry, Taylor, Cody, Jessie, Cassie, Kelly, Kim, Leslie, all of which are also boys names. We are not defined by our name, we are defined by how we perceive ourself and how others see us.

As long as you are happy with your name, that is all that is really important. Personally I have always thought of Janet as being a girly girl name. Very feminine indeed, but that is just my opinion.

On the other tentacle, apparently, my femme name isn't female at all. My given male name is Jason, but my friends have always called me "Jay", however I was dressed. When I started dressing again three years ago, "Jay" sounded right to my ears, and I thought that tacking an "e" on the end made it feminine, as with the name "Faye".

I have since come to find from various naming websites that "Jaye" is generally considered to be a man's name. The only celebrity I could find with that name is Jaye Davidson, the actor from "The Crying Game" and "Stargate".

When I introduced myself at my first Tri-Ess meeting last month, a couple of gals asked when I was going to pick a femme name for myself. I said, "Jaye is my femme name".

I've toyed with going to something similar, like "Jayne", but I've grown to like "Jaye". Besides, because of "Firefly", I'm always going to associate Adam Baldwin with the name "Jayne".

I really like the name Jaye. It had not occured to me that it was a male name. The E on the end definitely feminises the name, too. I think it's a very personal thing, whether you perceive a name to be feminine or not. For example, I feel like my name, Curly, is very feminine even though a lot of men use Curly as a name, (like Curly from The Three Stooges). I dislike my real name and because I dislike it I don't feel it is feminine or pretty at all, even though it is a traditional feminine name. (Though I do know of one famous male who had my name).

Is it kind of expected to have a femme name in CDing circles, do you think? I was just wondering as Ed has always said he doesn't want one. I would not like to think anyone thought less of him because he chooses not to have a femme name!
