San Francisco Pride 2006--come to the Transgender Pavilion

Post by Anita »

I won't be in the parade tomorrow morning--I'll be getting ready for the afternoon's stage performance. There's only so long my makeup can hold out. I hope some of you Bay area gals are able to make it into the city for the day, though. For the second year, there is a Transgender pavilion, located around Turk and Larkin. The Transgender stage is there, and my band will be playing at around 5pm. Crossdressers, T-girls, Pre-ops, Post-ops--everyone's welcome tomorrow! Come out and help us celebrate.

Just to close this out--the concert was a lot of fun, but it was certainly a mixed bag as far as the weather and the sound. The wind was blasting through the skyscraper 'canyon' where we were, and I had to lash my wig down with bungie cords. Seriously, the one picture of me looks like I'm wearing a toupee--I've got all my long strands bundled up or bobbie pinned down.

The sound going out to the audience was not what it should have been. We had no control over that, but we put on an energetic show. Mark, our singer, jumped around more than usual, and it made a great visual. Afterward, he said it did it mainly to keep warm!

I talked to some other TG girl musicians, briefly, but I was distracted by trying to get ready to go on. Lipstick Conspiracy went on before us, and played very good rock. They were featured in a weekly newspaper here, and the article pointed out that some of them were faced with the conflicting goals of wanting to be a well-known band, while still not wanting ot be "out" at work.

I'm going to post a letter I wrote to family and friends about a concert experience we had here. It may not interest this board at all, but I am going to share it and let people decide for themselves.

Anita,

Thanks for the update.

It's too bad the wind tunnel was turned up to maximum and the sound wasn't as good as you liked.

So was your singer moving around more than in your webcasts?

I wish I could have been there enjoying the performances, maybe some day.

I would like to read of your concert experience.
