Why long skirts in the workplace?

I often see women wearing floor length skirts in the workplace. It seems like they would get in the way, and I can see no advantage to them at all. What is the point of long skirts in the workplace?

What is the point of long skirts in the workplace?

It can simply be a matter of personal preference, the temperature may be too cold for their legs, or maybe to help cover up varicose veins or a disfigurement.

The reasons can be as varied as why some women prefer to wear only short skirts or dresses, and others who won't wear anything but slacks.

I personally love long flowing skirts. I love the Bojo Look that everyones wearing. It's a lot like the peasant look of the 70's. I own about 10 long skirts and some even touch the floor "streetsweepers". They are mostly made of cotton and are cool to wear in the summer. I hate stockings so these are great. You don't have to worry about how closely shaven your legs are and if your legs are as white as a ghost.

Plus they make you look and feel more feminine without really going through too much effort.

I too personally love long skirts. Also many workplaces require skirts to be a certain length. I love the peasant look as well and really enjoy wearing them and they by no means get in the way.I would be way more afraid of wearing a short skirt in the office and it ride up and my a** be hanging out

First I've heard of the term Boho, short for Bohemian. I always referred to them as Gypsy, but then purchased on that was labeled Prairie.

I like longer skirts also. I love sun dresses and capris.My son Goes to The University of Southern Maine and when I visit him I go to Portland to shop. There is a place called Asia West that has great things. Below the knee cotton wrap skirts,great comfortable sun dresses and comfy pants and matching tops with an Asian or Indian flair. I just put two in my picture gallery. I'm such a girly girl I can't stand myself sometimes!

Hey, Jeannie - Like you, I love to wear sun dresses, especially the long ones - - with high heels, of course! Taking a quick look in my closet, I count 8 long sun dresses, 5 linen long dresses with jackets, and 1 nylon long sun dress (with a lining). And I just bought 2 new 'Boho' style crinkle skirts and 2 linen slack sets today. My CD and I are going to need a house just for our clothes and shoes!

Jeannie, you'll have to get down to the Sunshine State and shop at Bealls - you'll be in 7th Heaven for long and short sun dresses, skirts, and capris! Don't ask how much of my money they have!!!

I'm a big fan of the boho look too

I feel very feminine wearing this look.

I agree with S.L. There are many reasons why women wear long skirts, including covering up large ankles, white legs, and all the things previously mentioned. Or they may be just enjoying wearing the boho look. In the workplace I would not wear a short skirt and a long skirt is a good alternative to trousers.

Modesty is a factor also. A woman working in a busy office shouldn't have to break work consatration to worry if her short skirt is covering all under. Sitting with a long skirt will cover the knees or go to mid calf. Less shaving, and knee high nylons is the other convience. I really do love my long skirts and long dresses.

Sharon that website was like looking through my wife and eldest daughters wardrobe. They both love that look. They both like the somewhat individuality of style and my wife likes how it conceals a great many things quite artfully.

I like the long skirts too unless it's too hot. I only own a couple that come as high as the knee, the rest are all long.

I have skirts of all lengths, depends on my mood and where I am going as to what length I wear. I had generally restricted myself to skirts that were mid calf or so but I found an ankle length denim skirt a while back on the clearance rack at the mall and it was just $5 so I figured what the heck. It took some getting used to but I wear it so much more than any of my other casual skirts. I find the look fits whether I am going out with the gurls, just lounging at home, or going shopping. The nice part of the longer skirts is the modesty issue as many here have stated. It sure beats trying to keep your poise and modesty in a mini-skirt while trying to get something from the top or bottom shelf at the grocery store. Also it is nice in the summer as I don't have to wear hose with it, just slip into some sandals and off I go!
