Another One Going Away
I came here to post this message, and I noticed a whole stream of other notices from other folks.
Tomorrow (later today, really), I'm going to Virginia to see my parents and the rest of my family. I spent the day cleaning, packing and doing the myriad other things that go into trip preparations. I haven't been to see them since May, and this is my first real vacation (using vacation hours) in about a year. I'm driving up Sunday afternoon, and I don't have to be back in Charlotte till Friday afternoon/evening. In addition to seeing my folks, I'm going to spend some time with my brother and his wife, and I'm trying to get ahold of an old friend/girlfriend while I'm there. I'd just like to see her.
I'll have net access while I'm there, but I'm a little leery of logging onto anything TG from my Dad's computer. I've toned down my pedicure (clear for the first time in a year!) so I can wear shorts and flipflops without freaking Dad out, though someone is sure to comment on my shaved legs and arms. Oh, well...

Hey ! What's going on!
Everybody is going on vacation except me. The last vacation I had Eisenhower was President! That's OK. You have a nice drive Jaye and enjoy the ride while I'm up the third floor roof patching a hole in the roof when my retractable awning blew off and landed on the roof last week in a severe wind and thunderstrom! I swear Mini has a Vodoo doll that looks like little Jeannie.
Don't worry about the the shaved arms or legs Hon. Do what I always do. I tell them I'm one of those weird Metrosexuals! What's up with those guys? They have issues! They really creep me out! Hugs

Well, I'm back. I did visit the board once while I was away, but I didn't post anything. It's often the case for me that vacation can be as wearying as the work I'm getting away from, but this trip wore me out, and not for any good reasons.
Usually, I travel to Virginia when I have a little mad money. I don't go spending crazy on these trips, but it's always nice to have a little pocket money, just in case. I didn't have the luxury of waiting until I had any extra money, this time. I had just enough money to cover gas going both ways, and that was it. I wasn't planning anything; I just wanted to hang with my parents, visit my grandmother and maybe see my brother and his family.
Mom did come up with a little sightseeing money, and my brother went with me to the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton. It's a little on the kiddy side, as air museums go, but they had some neat displays, and I got lots of photos.
In the meantime, my grandmother is very ill. My parents argued with her constantly all week in an attempt to get her to go to the hospital, but Granny is very stubborn. I even accompanied her and my mother to the doctor Thursday morning, where the doctor berated my mother for not forcing her to go to the hospital. When I returned to Charlotte this past evening, Mom told me that Granny was in the hospital, and the prognosis was not good.
On top of all this, by car broke down while I was in Virginia. When I turned it into the shop Thursday, I told them I was 99% sure it needed an alternator. They didn't get it in the shop until this morning, and when I called to see what was going on, they told me, "It needs an alternator." DUH!! I explained that I needed to get back to Charlotte ASAP, six hours on the road, overnight shift yadda-yadda, and I'd appreciate it if they could rush the work. They turned the car back over to me around 1:30. That was another $385 spent on that piece of junk. Mom picked up the tab (again), but said it was the last money she'd ever spend on that car.
I was on the road home by 2:30. I got back to Charlotte around 8 tonight, and that left me just enough time to play with my cat, eat a light dinner and turn around for work. By the time I get off later this morning, I'll have been up and running around for more than 24 hours. I'm not tired (yet), but my nerves are shot.
Oh, I almost forgot. Even with clear polish on my toes, Mom spent the entire trip asking me if I'd wear different shoes. I wore flipflops the entire time. I did have a different pair, my black platform pyramid pair from Torrid, but when I showed them to Mom, she said, "Go with the other ones." She also freaked out the one time I appeared in shorts. She was positive that one of her neighbors was going to say something about me, and asked what I wanted her to tell them. I don't care what others think anymore, and told her so. I told her to tell them whatever she was comfortable telling them.
