The Shopping Trip of DOOM!

Post by Jaye »

Sorry for the ominous thread title, but I felt I had to get something in for the Halloween spirit.

I'm working on Day Six of seven in a row, and though I'm off this Saturday, I decided that I was going to treat myself to a femme shopping trip. I did a quick shave to clean up my overnight growth, then got dressed and did my makeup. I tried out the new Loreal Volume Shocking mascara, and I've gotta say, I was impressed with the results. I dressed simply, just a purple drape neck top and spattered jeans from Walmart (Metro 7). I had a short shopping list, so I went to Northlake Mall, the only mall in Charlotte with both a Torrid and a Hot Topic. I wanted stuff from both places, though for once I was more interested in Hot Topic.

I mentioned in the Halloween thread that I couldn't get Torrid's "Pirate Wench" costume in time for this weekend, so I decided to try to assemble a punk chick outfit out of various items I found on the Hot Topic site. I went by Torrid first, just to say hello. Turns out, both the district and regional managers visited the store today. I got service from my usual helpful sales staff, AND a pair of top-ranked managers.

I went in there looking for a jacket, because the seasons are starting to change, and I needed something for the months till it really gets cold. I found this, on sale for $29.

Now, Torrid is having a Divastyle exclusive boot and shoe sale this weekend, buy one get one half off (like Payless BOGO, but a little more expensive). I forgot my email coupon, so I was going to have to go back tomorrow. More on that in moment.

After I arrived, the managers popped out for lunch, but they got back while I was having the manager Christie search for something for me. There's this really cool l.e.i. denim skirt that I like, but I need a size 12, and the smallest they have in-store or on the web is 14.

Debbie, the regional, pointed out a similar item, from the Baby Phat line. I'd seen it, but it's almost thirty dollars more, and I am sort of on a budget. Next thing I know, they're sending me into the fitting room with the Baby Phat skirt, a glittery purple tube top/shrug combo and a pair of grey boots and a matching belt. I've never felt so pushed in my life, but I went with the flow, and changed into the outfit.

I had a figure! I didn't get to see the how the whole thing looked until I went back out into the store. I was stunned. I did a slow turn for everyone, and Debbie shouts, "Look at her butt in that skirt! I've got to get that!" I told her that maybe they should hire me, if I can sell their clothes to their own management. She smiled, and said it was possible.

When I finally went to check out, they gave me the boot discount even though I didn't have the coupon. I bought the outfit described above, plus a black tactel tank for my punk outfit, the grey boots, plus a black pair they just got in, that I had originally wanted for the pirate outfit. I also picked up two pairs of earrings that I think will be easy to convert to clip-on.

When I went by Hot Topic, I discovered that the stores only stock about 20% of what they have on the website, so I was only able to get two of the items on my shopping list. I might hit the store in Pineville Friday to see if I can find any of the rest.

I almost forgot - while I was trying on my new outfit, the managers put out a company-wide bulletin to hunt for the l.e.i. skirt. They took down my contact info, and will call or email me if/when one becomes available. I was told that there might be a promotional item, or one on a mannequin, or, Gods forbid, one left over from a photo shoot or something. One way or another, they'll find this skirt. People are asking me all the time why I shop there: service, service, service.

Hi Jaye, sounds like a great time shopping for you. I will second your comment on the service at Torrid. About two months ago I was in a larger town near where I live and had some extra time. I was in male mode like I always am in this town, but I still do my usual and take a trip around the mall. When I got around to the Torrid-Plus store, and they were having what looked like a big sales as I walked in. They always greet everyone with a Hello and let them know if they can help shortly after getting in the store even if they are with other customers, they excuse themselves to greet customers. There were two clerks and the rest of the store was empty due to it was about 30 min to close. Well I look around and nothing jumps out at me but the big sale on jeans. So I begin to look through the jeans just for the fun of it. I have two other pair of femme jeans that are very unisex looking and lots of guy jeans so I do not really need any more at the time. I find some nice ones, but again I am not really looking to get any. Well one of the clerks comes by from the back, and again offers to help, I say that I am just looking and do not really know my size anyway. Well, she stops and comes back and we start this about what size do I think I may be, waist size. I am thinking this is great now I will have an idea of what size I am for the future. Well she has one pair of jeans and pulls a couple from another near by rack and says she will open up a room for me, and heads to the back. I stand there for a moment, then realize I was to follow her. So with my two pair of jeans in hand I head to the back and she has a room open and ready for me. Well I tried them all on but they were not quit fitting right. And I head back out. Well not fitting right I guess is the clue for clerks to switch to different brand or fitting jeans, but because after saying that, she took those jean and said something like I know what may fit you and was off to a different area and I follow. Well moving across the store we pick up the other clerk and they discuss fit and which may work better for me. Based on what size fit best before. They both pull a couple pair and we head back to the fitting room. I feel like I am just a puppy following along as I was still getting a grip what was going on here. Well I try on these jeans and find a brand that fit well, but just a bit snug or loose. And after checking size i see there is a size missing in the middle, and I think great new jeans for me to wear. Well going back out again one of the clerks is right there to help me. I tell her how they fit and off we go to find the middle size. Well after a search with both clerks they are out of that size. They both apologize and say there should be more coming in later in the week. Well after a couple minutes of chatting I realize it is 10 minutes after closing time and apologize to them for keeping them late and leave. They say they hope to see me later in the week, and I am thinking, "did that just happen" and I so wonder why people have problems shopping for themselves, I have yet to have a problem and it keeps getting better all the time.

Wow I guess that is a long winded, Yes Torrid has great customer service and is very CDer friendly no matter how one is dressed.

I liked Torrid when I was in there with a GG friend of mine. However when it came to trying stuff on I was trying on the smallest sizes they had in a skirt and something else (I do not remember it has been over a month now). I have lost enough weight that nothing there fits. The service was great and I did not feel uncomfortable trying items on there. I would recomend Torrid to any one who needs a size 12 or above.

I wish! Those are just the pix from Torrid's website. I'll try to get some photos of me in that outfit for everyone's benefit.
