Hi all,
I have had 3 serious relationships in my life:
A) In my last year of high school, first year of community college, (1969-1970). I left her because she decided to drop acid (LSD). I told her that I wasn't going to take it. She said if the Beatles took it, it must be all right. It was only in the past couple of years that I'm now able to listen to Beatles music from that time period again.
B) After I transferred to a 4 year college (early 70's), I met a girl visiting a friend of a friend - instant chemistry! She lived about an hour away from where I was brought up, and we kept up a distance relationship during most of the next year (what a HOT summer, though, when she lived only an hour away from my birth home !!). Her federal job got transferred to the Midwest and that eventually was too much and she eventually broke it off.
C) When I transferred to the 4 year college, I found out I had a distant female cousin who was also attending there. She helped me find my way around campus and introduced my to some of her friends. It wasn't until after graduation and the breakup of some previous relationships - me with B) and my cousin's friend dumped by her fiance, that I started work in a place where I didn't know anybody. We started writing letters, then phoning, then occasional visits from a distance of a 6 hour drive. After a bit less than 2 years, we married and in September celebrated our 26th anniversary.
I discarded the pictures of A & B long, long ago. If I still had them and compared, I would say that my taste definitely shifted from exterior appearance to inner qualities. In the end, I didn't choose the most shapely package with the prettiest wrapping and a gold bow on top, I chose the one with the biggest heart of pure gold.
Enough rambling for now.

Hi all,
Awesome post, Jadeanne! Thanks for sharing your romantic history like that.
So, 26 years wed, eh? Wow! Congratulations. It always seems to me that the institution of marriage is an endangered species these days. I've never been married myself. I came close once, but the in-laws objected because a) they thought we were doing it for the university bursaries (we were both in school at the time) and b) we were planning on a Buddhist wedding ceremony (her mother is Protestant, her father, Catholic--so ixnay on an Oriental wedding day!).
For some reason, my own relationships seem to have a roughly seven-year "shelf life." I'm not sure why (the seven-year itch, perhaps?). However, and with but one exception, I've always remained very good friends with my exes.
Stephanie,
I'm actually francophone (always a good chance of finding those in Quebec!). Born in Ontario, I was about five years old when we moved to Montreal. My parents tell me we have a double mother tongue, in that both my brother and I have always spoken both French and English, even though we come from a Franco-Ontarian community.
What part of the country do you hail from, Stephanie? (If I may ask?)
Love,
CJ

If that's rambling, I'm in big trouble.Jadeanne wrote:Hi all,

Great story Jadeanne and major congrats for having a marriage of 26 years and choosing love over "phony wrapping".
