The beginner- is there a resource?

Post by CherylM »

For a real beginner, who is very new at this, is there a book, or web page for the "ultra-basics"? I would like to start at the very beginning, and learn how to do this properly.

I need advice on make-up, breast forms, clothing, shopping, how to go out and pass, etc etc.

Any advice or guidance is appreciated!

If you have high-speed internet, YouTube is actually a very good place to find complete walk-throughs of how to apply makeup and even female mannerisms. I'm sure several major wig suppliers will also have on their sites how to select the right one.

I'm not aware of any one site that does all this, though. You may just have to spend the day on Google.

Hi CherylM....funny..I have a good friend with the same name
Heres a long makeup site that might help.....and you can save it to view off line. It might leave you more frustrated than before you began...did me also..but explains a lot. As my triess friends put it when I first joined "practice practice". Then I cheated and found a beauty shop.

Cheryl,
Honey any of the women's magazines are very useful. Also all the cosmetic companies have websites and many have interactive sites that you can use to actually put in your skin type and eye color, height, weight, etc and they can tell you what colors look good and go with what outfits, etc.
Mabelline.com
Revlon.com
Cover Girl.com
Sepora.com
Elizabeth Arden.com
and they have links to other sites as well,
Good luck and good hunting!
Love,
Virginia

I found this site helpful---lots of good basic info. I would love to be as thin as she is!

Hi all,

I put an advertisement in Craig's List under t4w and asked for help in makeup and chosing clothes I got some cyber-rape back but I found 4 lovely ladies willing to help.
One is a former beauty pageant queen who is offering counseling and support as well as makeup help,
one is a 35 yo with an older friend who is TG and will go shopping with me,
one is a TS, and
one is a grad student who is going to Sephora's with me on Thursday for a makeover.

All of them have been just wonderful people.

Craig's List does attract a lot of weirdos so you have to be ready for them

The two books I like when I started agan were "Crossdress for Success" and "The Lazy Crossdresser".. At Barnes and Noble. And a good makeup book always helps!!
