Honestly, Zippy is a name I first started using on this forum's message board, despite using a female name of Kathy for several years. Why? The cartoon character Zippy is offbeat, different, and happily oblivious to so much going on around him. I wish I could be all those things in my everyday life.

Kathy is of course derived from Katherine, but I chose it for it's similarity to my own name, Keith. It makes it so much easier signing my femme name to credit card bills the few times I get to use Kathy's card. 8-[

Colette means "people of victory."

I have loved the name since I read "Les Miserables" and grew fond of her character.

Lydia was a Hittite empire back in the 12th century BC. Named after their king: Lydus. Some of the earliest coins were produced there. See details:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia

What ancient meaning it has, if any, I have not been able to find out. In Russian hagiography, there is a martyr named "Lydia, the tortured one." That was my mother's name, and she tried to live up to her taxonomic origins by leading as tragic a life as possible.

Well, the closest I could come to for a meaning of SilverLady is "white lady." Actually, SilverLady was my CB handle many years ago, as I drove a silver 5-speed Nissan.

The Hebrew meaning of my real name, however, is "drunk, satisfied." Hmmm, I know that's not the reason why my parents chose my name as I'm named to honor several of their close friends, all with the same first name! While I never cared for it's popular nickname while growing up, that is how I prefer to be called now - - it's all a part of the "real me", although most family members won't use the nickname!

Just for fun, I checked out Virginia's male alter-ego, and both the English and German meanings are "resolute protector." Very apt, IMHO!
