I have a question...

Post by Georgia(SO) »

A friend of mine is considering starting to make inexpensive jewelry - beaded ankle bracelets, bracelets, earrings from strung crystals, etc. It occured to me that many CDs might wear a larger size bracelet, ankle bracelet, necklaces with longer chains etc. than that which is ususally available in a store.

Do ya'll have trouble finding bracelets and ankle bracelets in your size? Do you shop ebay for this sort of stuff? Do you think there would be a market for such things? What sort of inexpensive jewelry are you looking for and having trouble finding in your size?

Thanks,

Georgia -

We have found that my ankle bracelets make a perfect wrist bracelet for Virginia. Otherwise, Virginia has to use the elastic-banded or the open-ended cuff-style bracelets; most regular bracelets are just a tad bit too small for her to wear. Virginia doesn't wear ankle bracelets, though, as she's never personally cared for them, even if she could find them in her size, which is next to impossible.

Personally, I think your friend's idea is a great one. Hmmmm, I used to do beading and I have jewelry supplies, now all I have to do is find the time to make something for Virginia and myself.

Some of us larger size CDs do indeed need longer chains on necklaces, and bigger bracelets.

My wife is into beading, so she's made me a few pieces.

I've also bought bracelets made with the elastic cording.

me? "I" have NOT bought beaded ANYTHING since the 60's.

but it sounds yummy. "I" always wanted a few beaded ones for anklets.
maybe? maybe even a couple for a necklace.
I like your idea.

Thanks ya'll - so would ebay be a good place for her to put stuff?

And could a couple of you measure what size anklet/bracelet and necklace chain you would need. I'll pass them on to my friend. You can PM me with the measurements if you want.

Ronnie - I know - I haven't bought much with beads since God was a teenager either. These aren't love beads though - some sort of faux crystal something or other beads that seem to be all the rage (they don't speak to me personally), as well as beads that look like turquoise nuggets, etc. Most of them are pretty cute, except the crystal thing-a-ma-bobs. Man, I'm way too much of an old flower child to wear anything that frilly!

I don't know if ebay would be good or not. Only becasue of the competition and bidding. I've not looked to see how the beaded jewelry sells online.

Sales at a support group meeting might go well.

I take about a 22" necklace to look right.

I think the 3-strand pearl necklace in one of the pics in my gallery (I've a red jacket over a black dress) is around 24".

As you can tell from the cultured pearls, beading can look classy.

bracelets are 8"-9".
