Hi all,

Well, we both survived the move. But what an ordeal! It was a three-day affair! I'm getting too old for this crap!

Although the day of the move itself (last Saturday) went fairly well, we grossly underestimated the amount of stuff and cleanup left to do at my old digs. We--i.e., Rina, myself, and one of my colleagues--moved the heavy stuff on Saturday, including the damn books, and Rina and I made several addtional trips on Sunday and Monday (after a grueling packing marathon). That I have so many books is likely the main reason so few of my co-workers offered to help us, or that only a single one made it... they remember what it was like the last time!

I guess one thing that sort of threw us both off is that the new people at my old address were not officially moving in until May 1st so we figured there was no urgency to get out. Well, urgency or no, there's no real advantage to stretch a move, I tell ya! We were both so spent after the move that actually unpacking the boxes took a backseat for a couple of days. The fact that Milan, one of our two kitties (who both used to belong to my former roommate, Marie) has been yowling all night for the first few nights, didn't help. (Yes, he's doing much better now and, finally, we're getting some actual shuteye.)

Today, we're harvesting the empty boxes and dropping them off at Rina's employer's home because the woman is also moving at the end of the month. Her boss is moving house, not just from apartment to apartment, so she'll need a heady pile of carton. Luckily, thanks to the amount of books I've managed to gather around me, we'll have that pile. Later, we'll be going back to my old address to tie up some loose ends (another load or two in Rina's little Jetta and some general cleanup). The new tenant, who's there on the weekends until May 1st, is cool with it all.

Anyway, 'tis done. Last night, I finished unpacking all the boxes in the study. For the first time in years, I have my entire library about me in one room (and I'm praying the hardwood floors will hold!). Of course, the books have all been shoved haphazardly onto the shelves; I figure it'll take me another couple of weeks to sort them all out. (Perhaps, and to quote Roy Scheider's Brody in Jaws, "I'll need a bigger boat!") Rina and I are also trying to figure out where to put all our clothes; methinks CJ will need to have a yard sale. Hopefully many aficionados of frothy lace and silky nylon will attend! (No, no, no... don't worry, there are no purges in the works--just a little sensible winnowing.)

Now, the only major stress I need to deal with at the moment is the upcoming workplace 50th anniversary celebration. I have so much work yet to do, and so little of it so far done, that I don't even know where to begin. But begin I must!

I'll stilll be busy, then, but I'll try to post once in a while. I miss you all.

Love,
CJ

CJ,

I am so happy the move is over for you! I hate to move but isn't it amazing the things you find while packing that were forgotten about? Hang in there on the planning of the 50th....We are very proud of you and your accomplishments. Knock them dead with your speech.

Hey girl,

Sitting here reading of your moving experience caused me to think. Since Amber and I married, nearly 18 years ago, we've moved 9 times. I don't think I'll ever move again! It's such an ordeal. No matter how careful you are something always ends up broken or missing. I still find things in the basement and wonder. "Now where's the other part to this?" Or, I find the missing part to something I threw away months ago. These are the after-effects of moving. I won't even mention the stress involved in the Move Planning stage, or the actual Moving stage. It's enough to drive one MAD! !!arg!!

I'm glad to see you're done, CJ. I hope you didn't lose anything (Rina too!) One question, though: When you cleaned the apartment, were you wearing your little french maid's outfit? :P

Hugs,
Kyra

Heh, good question, Kyra! :P Actually, no. Let's be honest, here: a maid's outfit and heels are fine when you're strutting about with a feather duster in your hands but, for the real low down and dirty jobs, you need to be wearing something much more substantial than a few square inches of wispy lace or sleek nylon and satin... like maybe a full-length panel-reinforced boned corselette over two pairs of full-support lycra pantyhose, knee pads, a ratty old housedress, disposable loafers, and yellow Playtex rubber gloves!

Just kidding! I did the cleanup wearing old jeans, a worn T-shirt and crappy shoes. I may be a dreamer but I'm enough of a realist to dress the part of someone who's moving and cleaning whenever I'm, uh, moving and cleaning.

Thanks for the thoughts, though, Sis!

Lisa,

I wish it were only a matter of public speaking. It's the slideshow that's driving me bananas. I have scanned pix coming out of my ears and I haven't even begun creating the actual slideshow itself! Plus, I'm helping a colleague whose job is to make a video documentary. Lots and lots of work! I'll manage, though. A month to go before the curtain rises! Yay!

Love,
CJ

Hey CJ, glad you are settling in, and yes it sometimes can be like Christmas opening boxes and finding things.

As for your presentation I have to tell a quick story that I did (well back in another life time). One of my "clients" asked me to put together a tape explaining their benefits, i.e., insurance, retirement, etc. to show to new employees. So I sat my desk up, put some greenery behind it, put on a coat and tie, rehearsed what I wanted to say, set up my video camera and "quiet on the set, places, and................ action!"

About a fifteen minute presentation then, how to end it, well, I figured I would say something like, "thank you for your time!" stand up and walk off camera. It was great, a real professional presentation, so I asked my now "ex" to review it. I put it in the VCR and went to the kitchen!! I know it was at or near the end when I hear this blood curdling scream of laughter!!!!! I ran in the room and she had absolutely lost it!!!! "What, What!??" I kept asking!!! She could only point at the TV and laugh. I knew whatever it was had to be near or at the end, so I rewound it briefly and sat to watch, well, I swear at first I did not see it - I guess in my mind I did not want to see it, second rewind BAM!!!!!!!!!! Yes, there it was, "Thank you for your time!" ----------- stand up and walk off camera . . . .

. . . . in my underwear!!

Yes, I had on a coat and tie, but no, I had not forgotten to put on pants - I just did not think it would show -- BUT IT DID!!!!

I am so glad she looked at it, because I was ready to send it to them without ever reviewing it 'cause I knew it was good! I just did not realize how good!

You will do great, hon!
Love you,
Virginia

PS: I always wear panties under my skirt! Don't you?

Last move, 1983, and all I had to do was unpack.

I hate to even think about moving. Which is why this place looks so full. Heck, I've still got boxes not unpacked.

Good luck on your presentation CJ.

You may want to simplify. Too many options make for harder decisions.

Sorry for being so slow replying here, CJ. Have mostly been very distracted by this pair of rascals (in a very rare pic of staying still!)

Congratulations with moving and best wishes for your new life with Rina!

How's your work coming on for the celebrations? When is it happening? I hope things are falling into place :) Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Well, I better get going...I have a training course today...understanding mental health in learning disability....of course, a one day course will teach me everything I know  but at least we get a good lunch out of it :P

Love,
Curly :)
