I totally agree with the others....do not use a flash if you can, and use the software. It works miracles. And remember, thats what the stars do. Remember Katie Couric and the touch up artist that instantly gave her a 40 pound wieght loss? My favorite was Jamie Lee Curtis -- the natural pictures she took so people can see what the photographers do...amazing...and a lot of courage on her part.

I've had pretty much the same experience with the camera. Plus I was very unpleasantly surprised to see what I look like clean shaven anyway.
Fortunately I like how I look as a guy and as for what the camera says about the femme side if I don't take pictures I don't have to look at them, do I?

Carol Ann,
You know as well as anybody that the camera lies. Have you ever opened up a Playboy? Nobody is that perfect. Even the models in Playboy wish they looked as good as the publication made them out to be.
The camera also lies on more than one level, let me explain. The camera is only a snapshot at an instant moment in time of what it sees. It cannot adjust to bad lighting, shading, wind, etc. But more importantly, beauty is not skin deep and the camera will never be able to see the beautiful man and woman you are inside as well. The fact is, that an ugly person on the inside always shows through on the outside. How many woman do you know of that their personality is so wonderful that you always see them as beautiful because their inner beauty actually helps adjust for their outer imperfections?
I have viewed many of your posts and although I have never met you, I have always felt that you were a beautiful person. The girls in the forum, you included, have always had it right: it is not solely about passing it is so much more about confidence and being yourself and enjoying who you are in life. Besides, have you taken a real good look lately at the genetic woman out there? They are not all exceptionally beautiful and yet they enjoy being a woman just the same. The same goes for men, we can't all be Robert Redford but we can all feel just as good as he does if we let ourselves. You must understand, there is always going to be someone prettier, that's life.
I too have struggled here and there about my own beauty. I don't feel I am terrible looking but I could use a nose job, a brow lift, a face lift, possibly cheek implants, etc. etc. etc. I also wish I could get rid of the 40's midsection. I would also love to have my own boobs, but would probably get caught playing with them too much, so for me; not a good idea, hehe! I could also use the money that all that would cost and have a nice fruity alcoholic drink every now and then and forget about my imperfections, lol!
The forum was instrumental in helping me realize it's about letting the girl in me out and letting her enjoy life for a change. It's about confidence, not in your looks, but in yourself! Besides, at our age who really cares what other people think anyway, it's about what you think! You need to wink at your inner girl more, besides the older we get the more we all look alike anyway, lol! Be beautiful because you are, love and kisses...

Sorry for taking so long to replay to everyone, but the truth is I was so deeply touch by what everyone had to say about me someone you never meet yet someone who people care about. In a way I was childish in the way I acted and should have been more grow up about the whole thing. Yes everyone was right the camera did lie
all I got to do is learn how to use it. My many thanks to all
a big hug from me to you.

Carol Ann...
Have you ever seen ANYONE with red eyes? Why do you think there are so many correction programs for digital cameras? Everything everyone has said is right on target.
I remember the first time I saw some hairs on my upper lip in a mirror. I was 20 years younger at the time and I was horrified. Who was this old woman staring back at me?
But I remembered that I had a nice smile and am a friendly warm person...and figured if they got close enough to see my lip hairs we probably were friends and it wouldn't matter. So I decided to forgettaboutit.
Now I am 60 and I'm sure there are a lot more signs of aging on my face and elsewhere. But this is who I am and where I am in life. True, pictures can help you realize how you can make modifications in your physical appearance...but it's what's inside that really counts.

I can't hold back any longer...
We try to judge ourselves by the women we see in print and on screen....wake up girls....those broads spend hours in makeup and then the photographer spends time getting the RIGHT angle.
I was at WallyWorld the other day female watching....geesh.....only difference between us and them is they KNOW they are genetic females and we want to look like we are. Tons of women with worse skin, more "male" features, and bad angles to be viewed from than me.
As a person with a minor in photography let me assure you that about everything you see in print commercially has been doctored. Go take photos outdoors facing the sun and smile. If anything, we just need to use less makeup so we don't look like Tammy Faye Baker.

(and no, I never retouch my photos)
