Crossdressing Day?

General talk about CD/TGing and gender topics that aren't necessarily fun things we do while en femme, or for gender-driven discussions.

Crossdressing Day?

Post by Jeanne »

Supposing somebody had the outrageous idea of instituting an Annual Crossdressing Day? It could coincide with Halloween, which is already the only excuse many CD's have for coming briefly out of the closet. What if CD parties became the norm on October 31st? I'm definitely going to throw one at my house this year.

Well we already have numerous conventions, support groups (social and psychological), a day of recognition for our sisters who have had to make the ultimate sacrifice. We are, in most places, allowed to participate in GLBT events, from picnics to meetings.

I like your idea, but we are a "little different" from our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. We love, if you will, members of the opposite sex which by most social standards is somewhat and I emphasize SOMEWHAT more acceptable to society. The fact that we wear clothing and "present" as the opposite sex, is something that keeps a lot of us - because society abhors something that they don't understand in the least - it keeps us in the closet!!!! Society is beginning to accept that love does not necessarily differentiate by sex, society is not ready to accept feelings, gestures, clothing, presentation by one sex of the other. I think that more and more people=society are much more tolerant and understanding of someone who has "the surgery" than they use to be, but you don't want to have the surgery, but you want to wear the make-up, shoes, clothes, carry a purse - "what are you some kinda weird-o? and you want your own day of recognition??? What the hell is this Halloween/365?"

I'd support your effort though!

Love you,
Virginia

I love the idea! People react well to having an "excuse" to do something they might otherwise be interested in but feel isn't appropriate. It wouldn't necessarily carry over directly into tolerance among the general public, but I can't imagine it would hurt!

Of course we'd still run the risk of outing ourselves by virtue of all the practice we've had. Not to mention the extensive wardrobe. How many first-timers are likely to wind up with clothes that fit? Have shoes they look comfortable in? Be well accessorized? I'd like to believe that there's no shame in being good at something, but people are odd creatures and this is likely to be an exception. I suspect it's the case that a lot of men would take pride in being exceptionally bad at dressing as women.

Honestly, though, to heck with them! I'd be happy to show off my favorite outfit and stand tall (in heels, of course) given the slightest opportunity. Perhaps while we're at it we should work towards replacing the largely outdated "casual Friday" with "cross-dressing Friday" in the workplace? Okay, so it's a bit of a stretch, but the idea makes me smile.

I wasn't familiar with either of them but there is an international Transgender Day of Remembrance, and the less widely celebrated (but more in the spirit of the original suggestion that started this thread) Transgender Day of Empowerment:

Lovely response, Kimberly. I've reached the age when I don't care much about being thought strange. Not long ago I came out to out best friends (another married couple) after THEY brought up the subject without prompting.

A week later we had a dinner party, at home, with all four of us cross-dressed. It was the first time anyone but my saintly wife had seen me en femme. One of the best evenings of my life. I felt completely loved for who I am.

A week after that they presented me with some darling skirts (one leather!) and tops in exactly my size. I don't think I've ever been so touched by a gift. Not just the clothes, but the gift of acceptance.

Gee, CJ - You're just full of talent, aren't you?! You put that ad together in such a beautiful way that at first I, too, was thinking it was real. But then, after thinking about it a little longer, I realized that it had "CJ" written all over it!! =D>

Halloween/Samhain is my favorite holiday. I think it becomes more important after dressing 24/7. I'm a respectable woman 364 days a year.

On halloween I can wear the Princess Aura costume or kitty ears and tail to the mall, Sonic, Radio shack or anywhere and I'm "just on the way to a party". Its a great safety valve.
