Later in life, as we consider what we have seen and read over the years, we become more thoughtful, perhaps more considerate of those around us. All of this is of course due solely to the electrical/chemical process that goes on in our brain. We have collected and stored physical information about our experiences and we recall that information through a chemical and electrical process. The very same process that stores information, recalls information as well.
This process escapes us day-to-day. We only see the physical side of things. The alarm clock goes off, we get up, most of us….ha ha LOL. Bottom line is that we are well trained by society not to think about the process. Only the end results that we can measure with our checkbook or inventory. Day-to-day!
If we start to think, especially with this level of thinking, people will only point out that you cannot live by philosophy alone. That you need to get up and do something. This reminds me of a popular academic phrase: “Those who can, do. Those that cannot, teach.” It is not admired by those in the academic community but it does have a ring to it.
What I have learned about that is this. Not everyone is designed to “do” in a business sense. There are those that learn about the process from books and can spot and relate to a business in trouble for example. They can find and point out the short-comings of that business and be of some help to the business owner. Many academic institutions (Community Colleges’) provide business courses that are aimed directly at local small business.
Back to the brain!
Day-to-day thinking is what we are all doing everyday. No time to think about where we are going. Where we have been. Yet today, we must consider out outcome. Our employer is leaving it up to us to find a way into retirement. Many successful businessmen and woman have either a ten or 20 year business plan leading to their retirement. That’s right! You are not included!
Time to look around and see where you are going! Forget where you have been unless previous experience is needed to get into the future. A little food for thought as I too consider my options.
