How public is your crossdressing?
So far it seems to me that regular public CD'ers and transsexuals dominate this board, but maybe I'm wrong. By public I mean where a total stranger could see you, not just people you know approve of seeing you crossdressed. (I have none of those people, myself.)
It doesn't matter whether you can pass or not for this poll - if you go out in public looking enough like the opposite gender that nobody can tell, you're still a regular public crossdresser! (I've never come close to passing thanks to my height, Adam's apple, generally tarty dressing and not having a wig.)
I've gone outdoors in drag, but only at night when I thought nobody would see me. Hopefully I'm right...

I marked "A few sporadic times daring to be seen".
I dress about 4-5 times a week, mostly in the basement office of my house. I've gone out three times now, in the past 3 months. I'm going across the state in a few weeks for a 5 day training course. I plan on going out 5 nights to various spots including dinner, the movies and shopping in a mall.
Given the chance, I'd go out much more often, but although my wife knows of my dressing, she refrains from wanting me to go out, plus she has never seen me dressed.

I also voted in private. But I did go out for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was after midnight and the neighborhood was not very bright with only the moon light. I went out on my back porch and also on the deck around the pool. I loved every minute out in the open. Was it the chance a neighbor might turn on their back light? Or was it the fact I was finally feeling being out in the open and not confined to sneaking around the house? I think the later, as it was a great feeling being out in a dress, hose and heels,
. Now I can't wait to do it again,
.

Very public
I answered - "Yes, quite regularly seen crossdressed in public".
About 10 years ago I had never even dreamed about going out in public while enfemme. Then, we moved to a new city, and I was in the perfect situation (home alone for a while, didn't know anybody, etc) so I started going out.
That was a big change. Now, if I'm going to have the chance to dress, I will not stay home. So, my CDing is a very public thing, while I'm still in the closet! No, not a contradiction. Depends on the definition of what it is to be in the closet, right?
For me the idea of being in the closet is that other than my wife, nobody in my every day life knows about my CDing. So, even though I would go out and meet with friends, etc, very few who know Gaby know about the "Clark Kent" identity. *lol*

In 2006 I went out in public for the first time, I was afraid what people might think, what people might say, afraid of seeing someone I know, afraid of being singled out and made fun off, afraid of rejection.
I did it last year with the help of reading other peoples experences and I have not looked back. Its just wonderful being out and about being yourself.

Hi Girls:
Since I am a consulting engineer and part-time University teacher, I have many opportunities to dress as I please. If I am at home for the day, I will dress of course and go about the household chores.
If I decide to go out, it can be to the mall, or other public place. Today, I am more concerned with the aggressive nature of the local "security guards" where I will typically go. Their way of thinking is rather stunted. Using the public facilities is okay if there is a specific room marked, "family." We have those in Florida Wal-Marts, the local mall etc.
Yes, it can be a challenge and un-nerving as one might expect when out and dressed in such a manner. The mind goes to work with many "what if's" and it does not take long to become less than optimistic about going out.
Sure, most likely nothing will go wrong. But, as humans we certainly do dwell on the negative a great deal. We all know the risks and have seen the results in legal cases where the employer fires the employee while on their off-time, dressed in another gender. Subsequently, the employer wins most of the time in court law suits. What you do on your off time can have an effect on the employer's bottom line and the courts reflect that in their judgments for the employer historically.
I do not like to go out in my little Toyota pick-up truck, rather, I prefer to use the Ford Explorer when the spouse is away on vacation. It just looks and feels more appropriate and a little less "red neck." Something a "Lady" would drive in heels.
Hugs
Danielle Marie
