By all means! Instead of having Notre Dame vs. Michigan, we could have YOU and all your power-lifting kin from around the world next Saturday. We should see to this...Carol Ann wrote:Way to go, now when do we get to see you on ESPN?
CONGRATULATIONS, SIS! Ya make me proud, sitting here. Now all you have to do is explain "8 out of 9 white lights," and I'll be able to sleep tonight. You weren't at the drags, were you--oh, that's red and green lights--I'm so confused. Anyway, that is such an accomplishment; top of the world!

Thanks girls, for your congrats! And Donna, don't know where you got the symbol, but I LOVE IT!
As for TV there was a film crew from Berlin there, but I am sure that that is a far as any coverage will go!!! Sorry 'bout that!!
The set up is there are three judges, one to either side of the bench and one at the head. They are either a Category 1 or Category II which means they are well qualified and have judged International and World Competition and have taken extensive tests and passed several practical exams to judge World Competition. I am not sure but I think I had a German, Czech and a Polish judge. The theory behind the international judges is that you have missed the lift until you prove you can do it correctly. Kind of like guilty until proven innocent!
Anyway, there are a multitude of things you have to do right and if the judges feel you did everything right they each have the option of throwing a switch for a white light which means you did (in World Competition) everything within the rules of the lift. You have to have two of the three possible lights white to get the lift. Two reds and one white light means you missed the lift. I got three whites on my first attempt, three whites on my second attempt and two of three on my third = 8 of 9 white lights. Why one of them gave me a red on my last attempt, who knows, I got the lift so it is irrelevant, to me. (He, the Polish judge, seemed to be giving everyone red lights anyway!)
Don't want to bore anyone that may read this, but some of the rules are things like you can't move any body parts other than your arms once you are told to start the lift. You have to "pause" the weight on your chest, totally motionless and "under control" until the head judge is satisfied that you have control of the weight, then he will say "PRESS" and you then have to move the weight to full arm extension with no wavering and keeping the bar completely level and then again, hold the weight/bar completely still and "under control" at full arm extension until you are told to "RACK" the weight. Having some fun now!
Love you all!!!!

Thank you, Virginia, that's very clear, and it's interesting to know about. As for the rules, it brings back memories of my own high-school weight-lifting. That 'under control' part can be real trickly. We were just fooling around, though.
I said in another post that no matter how much weight-lifting I did, my upper arms still had that wiry look--Popeye forearms, and slender biceps. It looks good on Anita, but I was not happy about it as a boy.
When I first saw this post title, I thought it was about the blood-thirsty pool shark competition between you, Donna, and SL. of course.

Hi, ladies!
Well, technically speaking, we did get in some pool time . . . the powerlifting competition was in their "am AquariUM" - a very upscale and posh-like YMCA - and the lifting itself was actually on top of the pool!
They had an Olympic-size pool, and on one end they had built a platform that extended all the way across, which held chairs for about 100 viewers. On the opposite side, they built a bridge extending 10 feet out into the pool, which connected with a platform that was about 30' x 30' where the actual lifting was done, and of course all the referees, the jury, and the technical personnel were seated at tables on the platform, too. I'll have to post some of those pics in my Photo Gallery, because this was just incredible to see! So, yes, we did get some pool time in while in Germany.
Oh, you meant billiards?
Silly me, Virginia's blonde-ness must be rubbing off on me!!
Nope, no billiards on this trip, we were at the meet venue until 8p every night, and trying to get some much-needed sleep when we weren't there . . . we never adjusted to the 6-hour time change, and I swear that a roll of TP had more substance than our pillows!
Don't worry, Donna, I'm not gonna let either Virginia or yourself 'gang up' on me at the billiard table the next time we're together!
Love ya!
