Jaimie,
Not knowing your personal situation, but to get a good start, try a nail salon. I see a lot of males in them and they can do wonders to get you started, "silk wraps" are one good way to go. Around here it is about $35.00 and will last up to two weeks, of course that depends on where you put your hands. Spreading concrete without gloves will take its toll as well as auto mechanics, etc.
When I am going out to dinner or party or movie, etc. I have gone with the glue on and I recommend the glue on as the self-stick just don't seem to hold up as well. One of our sisters here recommended that you put a couple of coats of clear hardener on a day or two before then the glue ons. I tried it and it does seem to protect your natural nails. Also if you go this route, carry a spare nail or two and the glue in your purse as well as the appropriate color polish
Let us know how it goes for you!
