Fun Day of Shopping

Post by Jaye »

Since I talked with Dad in February, I've tried to get out dressed about once every 7-10 days, as long as circumstances allow. I went out and bought a new wig yesterday, something completely different from what I've worn the last year or so. I'll post pictures soon.

Anyway, I started this afternoon at Lane Bryant. Everything was Buy One, get 1/2 off on a Second Item. I bought a couple of tops. Next I went to Shoe Carnival and picked out a cute pair of brown sneakers. From there I drove across town to Greenbrier Mall. I picked out a couple of new OPI colors from Trade Secret, and broke character just a bit to buy a model airplane (an F-4 Phantom) at Hungate's and an anime DVD (Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex - Solid State Society) from FYE.

On the way back from the mall, I stopped at Wally World for a few grocery items. All day long, I had not encountered a single hostile person, nor endured a single derogatory remark. People have been as nice as can be. Anyway, as I was loading the truck, a car pulled into the next parking space over. The driver, a thirtyish African American man, rolled down the window and motioned to me. I leaned over, and he says (and I quote), "I saw you in WalMart, and I thought you were pretty cute. Do you have a phone number so we can hook up sometime?"

I took a breath, and said, "I'm sorry, but I'm a lesbian, and I don't think my girlfriend would approve."

He muttered under his breath, rolled up the window, and drove away.

On the one hand, I suppose I should have been flattered. I suppose I should also feel bad for lying. I just wish I had a girlfriend to back up the claim.

Hi Jaye:

Glad your first day out shopping on you own has been such a good experience.
I have had no problems when i have been out as Denise. For the past month I have been on Vacation. I have been Denise 24/7 with no problems at all.
Good luck on your outings and hope the rest of them go as well as the first one did.

I am now heading back north from Florida, and expect to be in your part of the country for a few days, so please keep some warm weather there for me

Hi Jaye,

I have like airplanes since I was a baby( :-k ), and enjoy flying my RC when the wind isn't blowing to hard. Man a crosswind landing in a cow field is a ruff one. :P

Carol Ann,

Honey, you should try it at 3:00am in the morning with a 40 knot cross wind with 30 foot waves on the deck of a carrier and your motor sucking fumes just to keep you in the air! Now that will put your panties in a bunch!

Jaye, I would not call it lying, you may have simply educated someone!
I think it was a good response. I am glad you had a good time!! Hope we can get together in the future at a PinkEssence or maybe one "First Friday's" at Fieldens.

Love ya,

Virginia

Jaye I'm glad you had fun and it was a nice day. I would not call a tactful turn down lying or feel bad about it.

I never did get around to posting photos from my earlier outings in February and March, so here they are, belatedly. The first two images are from the night I went to the Rainbow Cactus. On the way out to the Beach, I stopped by work, and one of my coworkers was kind enough to snap a couple of me for posterity. The first is not as flattering, but I was trying to show off my outfit.

This picture was taken about a week later, when I ventured out to the Rainbow Cactus on my own. I was trying out a different hairpiece. I know, I know, my lipstick is too red!

OH...I love carrier landings and takoffs. I remember while on the Apollo 17 recovery (Tico, CVS14) back in1972, I was hitching a riding on a P3 and deck got their timing off a tad. We launch just when the bow of the carrier started down The P3's props hit the top of a wave. We got back onto the carrier only because of the skill of the pilot. Navy/Marine carrier pilots do have guts.

JoAnn Dallas,
I didn't know a P3 could be carrier launch. My son in the Navy who is a scope operator only flys from a land base, they are sub hunters.

Virginia,
Hay honey just close your eyes and put her on auto land, the space shuttle does it. rotf rotf rotf

Yep, P3's can be carrier launched. In fact the USAF and USN did a joint exercise where they landed a USAF C130 on a carrier and then turned it around and launched it.

I can't say anything about your P-3 story, as I have no references, but it was a USMC KC-130 that conducted those tests, off USS Forrestal in 1963. It was just a feasibility test for the possibility of using C-130s as COD aircraft. It was certainly doable, just not very practical, as the flight deck had to be completely empty. See the following image from Wikipedia:

Anyway, I'm all for dicussions about aviation (Heck, I love to hear about that stuff!), but how did it end up in my thread about going out? And no one's said word one about my photos.

JoAnn,

Sorry sister it's all Virginia doings, you know she can be a trouble maker at times. Lady I am glad SL keeps her in line.

Yes I remember that landing as it was on TV, of all the planes I have jump from she is the best. Of course we were traveling tourist and didn't have the comfort of first class. :P

Ahem!! Let me remind you ladies who actually started the conversation about airplanes:
Jaye wrote:... I picked out a couple of new OPI colors from Trade Secret, and broke character just a bit to buy a model airplane (an F-4 Phantom) at Hungate's and an anime DVD (Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex - Solid State Society) from FYE.

and then Virginia responded. Thereafter, it was JoAnn and CarolAnn who carried on with that topic.  Looks like it's not just Virginia who needs to be "kept in line" here! :P

Anyway . . . . Jaye, you look good in your outfits, and I'm glad to see you getting back out again and having a fun time! =D>

Speaking of shopping

SL and I went into a Neiman-Marcus "outlet" on International Drive in Orlando while we were there last week-end. Talk about "conspicuous consumption!" They were having a "sale" and stuff was "marked down" upto 50% . The "original" price was on the tags and then several reductions. What caught my eye was a pair of red, what appeared to be silk and what I can only describe as pajama pants. Nothing fancy, no embroidery work or special waist band or trim. Original price $998.00!!!!!!!!!! final mark down $238.00 with 30% off that!

Most of the other "stuff" was similar in price and mark downs. I did see some nice things, like $300.00 sunglasses and some $200.00 skirts AND I AM WORTH IT! My bank account however has other ideas - Well, back to Goodwill where I can get much the same for somewhat less! =D>

Shop on, ladies!!!!
