Saw the eclipse, three days en femme

Post by Grace »

I drove 400 miles south to see Sunday's annular eclipse, leaving on Saturday fully dressed. With encouragement from this board, I got up the nerve to check in to the motel en femme. A male receptionist dutifully entered my male name and ID into their registration and gave me the key without batting an eye. It was nerve-wracking, but the next morning was really nice. When I checked out, the receptionist was a woman who looked at the registration and did a double-take, asked me what last name I checked in under, and smiled and wished me a nice day.

On Sunday, I arrived at my destination at 2:00, and went to a motel to check in en femme again. No rooms were ready yet, but the 20-something women at the reception desk seemed to enjoy checking me in with my male name and were very pleasant. I signed the registration with my name/Grace. They took my payment and told me to return in an hour to get my room. When I returned at 3:00, a new receptionist was behind the desk and when she looked up my registration, she stumbled over the double name, and I just said I'm Grace. She corrected the registration, removing my male name. :)

The eclipse itself was everything I'd hoped for. I'd driven 300 miles in the late 70's to see a total eclipse, only to have a cloud cover the event at the last minute. Although there was a thin layer of high clouds this time, the eclipse was completely visible and awesome.

The next day, I checked out and, feeling confident, went to a hair salon and had my long hair trimmed and styled. I posted a picture in the gallery.

Five restaurants, a hair salon, 1000 miles and two motels later, I'm home and still dressed. What a great weekend!

Sounds memorable. Congrats. And of course the reason you got to see the eclipse this time was you were en femme ;) .

Great story Grace.

It is by doing things like this with dignity that will advance our standing in society. I am so glad it was such a wonderful experience.

(I can't help but hear Bonny Tyler singing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' for some reason.)

Good for you my dear friend, as we know once you get over the fear it is very simple. I remember my first time a million years ago I was so scared I couldn't even talk. ``5
