Yeah, you read me right: I "pulled an Elizabeth" yesterday morning. Heh. No offense, Elizabeth.
I'll admit it took me a few minutes to still my beating heart enough for me to turn the front door handle and actually step out. It was raining so I took an umbrella with me. Somehow, this made me feel more secure, as though it were a shield of sorts. As I started walking down the block, thinking that maybe I wasn't too obvious, I looked down and noticed that the rain had soaked through my hose, highlighting the red polish on my toenails. Oh well. Couldn't be helped.
A few minutes later, at the drugstore itself, I was going to go to the stationery supplies section to get myself some Krazy Glue for my nails but I decided to go to the cosmetics department once I got there to buy actual nail glue. The two women behind the counter seemed bemused but were very helpful. "Nice shoes," said the older one, with a smile.
On the way home, I noticed tiny groups of teenagers walking along the cross streets, no doubt coming home from school (it was almost noon by then). I silently cursed my bad timing. I hadn't thought about that at all. To my surprise, although many noticed me, not a one said a word or nudged a friend with a wink in my direction. The proverbial "packs of sniggering teenage girls" were there as well but they seemed to be too self-absorbed to notice or to care.
I then made my way to the local convenience store. The owner, a super friendly Chinese woman, took me in at a glance when I walked in. She didn't falter and remained her pleasant and usual self. I came back home refreshed, if a little damp. All in all, a fun outing. When I manage to access the gallery, I'll post a photo.
Love,
CJ
